The Grand, York

Beautiful hotel in central York. Excellent service. We had a double room in Roman House (the newer side of the building). The room was immaculate and quiet with lovely views of the city. The spa left a little to be desired but we had left a spa hotel the day prior so it was hard not to compare. But the spa area is small with only a pool, small jacuzzi and small sauna and steam room. You can book this in 1-hour slots which is more than sufficient time. A lovely bonus to an overnight stay but wouldn’t warrant a spa “day” or using this hotel for that sole purpose. We stayed for new year but did not partake in the hotel’s new year gala events, it didn’t disturb us however either. Excellent service but very pricey. Worth is for a special occasion (in this case a short city break immediately following our rural wedding).

Location, staff lovely, beautiful superior room in the new wing. Spacious with large , comfortable twin beds. Very well placed. The pool ad spa well designed and peaceful and the gym small but well equipped.

The rooms were fabulous, really large, plenty of room for a good restful stay. Breakfast was as expected of such a good hotel, plenty of choice. Location was spot on, close to everything. All staff, without exception were very welcoming and friendly.

I stayed here for a few nights recently and found it was very conveniently located for train station and the local tourist sites. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed using the spa facilities as well. The room was, for the most part, comfortable and clean, and the food was good.

Stayed here for a few nights with my partner. It was really lovely. It truly does have the real 5 star appeal… some fives unfortunately don’t now a days. Nice vibe, super clean and friendly. Very luxurious/attention to detail is perfect.

Size of the room was fabulous with a lovely bathroom. Staff availability and attitude was great. You could not fault the cleanliness of everywhere. The property was beautiful and really well kept. The hotel was busy but the room and corridors never felt noisy. The bar and restaurant were great, food was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The location of the Grand is ideal for attending events in York. The staff are all really friendly and helpful, especially the concierges. The room was spacious and on the ground floor which we had requested. We have stayed in the Grand several times before and always enjoy the lovely building and overall decor.

The location was excellent, the building itself i am sure can tell many stories and if i ever get the chance i would love to sit and listen to a local person or member of the Hotel staff about the Hotels past. I love older buildings that have character and do not care care much for modern day thrown together Hotels like the Travelodges of this world, no disrespect intended. The breakfast was lovely, very well laid out and a good choice, It was my wife's birthday a few days ago so to find a card and some chocolates for her in our room made us smile, that was so thoughtful and a lovely touch. I lost my dad last month so have been under a lot of stress, this weekend away has been perfect for both of us, to celebrate Wendi's birthday, stay in beautiful accomodation in an amazing city and get much needed fresh air and R&R ! All of the staff were so polite and smiling, we thank them all for their hospitality. We will return to the Grand for sure. Philip & Wendi x

A beautiful hotel set in a superb location in central York. All the staff we met, were so friendly and helpful. They made us feel so welcome and looked after. Our room, which we upgraded to an Executive Double Bedroom, was absolutely spotless and very spacious, the bathroom particularly so. A large super comfy bed ensured a wonderful nights sleep. We didn’t have dinner in the hotel, but we spent time in the bar, listening to a wonderful live singing performance from a local musician. Such a wonderful atmosphere. We ate out that night, but we did have the hotel breakfast which was amazing. So much choice and again, such lovely staff. We would definitely stay again when we next visit York.

The concierge and the gentlemen out front, they helped us with the local area and were just so friendly, helped with our bags couldn't have been lovelier. The people who answer the reception phone are great and helpful
